What is the most spoken language in the world?

According to data from the World Bank on planet Earth there are 6,974 million people and each person speaks at least more than one of the nearly 7,000 languages that have been estimated.

Chris Wyburd, manager of My Oxford English, maintains that “Learning more than one language is useful for breaking the cultural and relational boundary which arises at the moment of travelling or getting to know people from a different place; it even eases the process of finding employment abroad, studying abroad or being eligible at the moment of applying for a grant. For example, English should form part of the professional day-to-day life outside of the country itself since it is the basis of communication for commercial transactions between companies all over the world. It is never too late to start learning.”
